Subsections 2022
Congrats to the Freshmen Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Teams who are all moving on to the Section Championships next week at Willow Hills! Also, sophomores Connor McGinness and Jacob Wehling are also moving on as individuals. Break out performances of the meet go to Ayden Celeste, Ben Wilson, Owen Anderson and Bell Neff. Go Lions!
Metro Championships 2022
Metro Championships 2022 done! The Lions went 4 for 4 winning the team title in all divisions! The frosh/soph girls team put all 5 scorers in the top 12; Joy McDaniel, Grace Bardsley, Peri Cressman, Katie Locke and Madison Clark. In the frosh/soph boys race, Owen Anderson took the individual title, followed by Ayden Celeste, Ben Wilson, Connor McGinness and Jacob Wehling. For the Varsity Girls, Louie McNatt ran away with the individual title, in a blazing time of 17:58! Also scoring for the Lions were Olivia Johnson, Stella Louney, Brooke Kirchner and Alena Wong. The Varsity Boys dominated with Alec Redmond leading in 15:39; a McClatchy course record! Sam Rounds, Jax Leon, Jonas Johnson and Rowan Kliman went 3,4,5, and 10 to put the LIons in first place by 30 points. The boys also set a McClatchy team time record by 45 seconds! The most improved for the meet goes to Malik Norris and Ella Sebok. Both took more than 2 minutes off their times from Metro 1. Go Lions!
HOKA to HOCO 2022
HOKA to HOCO Weekend! Lots of fun times and fast times this weekend! In the midst of the homecoming festivities, we got in some great races! Louie McNatt took 2nd overall in the girls race. The top 5 girls of Louie, Olivia Johnson, Stella Louney, Brooke Kirchner and Alena Wong ran a team time which currently ranks 10th in California for the HOKA Postal Nationals! On the boys side, we had 4 guys under the 10 minute mark! Alec Redmond, 9:38; Jax Leon, 9:50; Sam Rounds, 9:54; and Jonas Johnson, 9:55. Add in Rowan Kliman at 10:57 and the boys are ranked 8th in California! There were also lots of PR’s on the team! Winning for most improved are Gracie Castillo who took 4:16 off of her 2 mile PR and Owen Anderson, who took 2:28 off of his HOKA time from last year. Go Lions!
Clovis Invitational 2022
It was a hot day at Woodward Park, but that didn’t stop the Lions from running well and scoring some PRs! In the Varsity Girls race, Louie McNatt led the team finishing in 4th place with an 18:44 (PR by 11s). Olivia Johnson, Alena Wong, Stella Louney and Grace Bardsley also ran well helping the team finish 22nd out of 36 teams. The Varsity Boys were led by Alec Redmond in 13th place, with a PR of 16:19. Also, with huge PR’s for the boys were Jonas Johnson, Jax Leon, Sam Rounds, Rowan Kliman, Alex Li and Jaime Garcia. They took 13th out of 37 teams. The JV Boys were 18th with Joseph Henly leading the way in a PR of 19:05. Ben Wilson, Jackson Evans, Malik Norris and Ethan Roach also scored for the LIons. In the final race of the day, the Frosh/Soph Boys took 11th place. They were led by Owen Anderson and Connor McGinness, both with huge PRs of 18:26 and 18:34. Also running well and scoring for the LIons were Cooper McGinness, Ben Cook-Appel and Ayden Celeste. Go Lions!
Tom Laythe Invitational 2022
Gotta love racing at Willow HILLS! FS Boys started off the day with a 6th place finish with Connor McGinness, Owen Anderson, Ben Cook-Appel, Cooper McGinness and Ayden Celeste scoring for the Lions. In the FS Boys open race, Braedon Hemann, Adrian Guzman and Derek Henly earned medals with a 7th, 10th and 24th place individual finishes. The FS Girls were 14th with Alena Wong, Grace Bardsley, Joy McDaniel, Katie Locke and Peri Cressman. In the Varsity Girls race, Louie Mcnatt ran away with the individual title, beating out second place by 14 seconds. Her time of 19:04 is a personal best by 25 seconds and #4 on McClatchy’s All-time list for the course. The team took 14th place with Olivia Johnson, Abigail Uribe, Claire Mills and Chela Cobb filling in the 2-5 spots. The Varsity Boys ended the day with a solid 8th place finish. They were led once again by Alec Redmond, who finished 7th in 16:33. That’s a personal best for him by 1:14 and puts him at #8 on McClatchy’s All-time list. Jonas Johnson was 2nd for the Lions, running the 5K course for the first time in 16:48 (#10 on McClatchy’s All-time list). Jax Leon, Alex Li and Sam Rounds also scored for the Lions.
